Motocross Gear
Far too often we hear about people with serious or even life threatening injuries because they were not using the proper safety equipment while riding a motorcycle. If you ride motorcycles for leisure or competitively we suggest you read this information and become familiar with the following types of motocross gear available to you.
A standard set of motocross gear should consist of at least the following recommended items. MX Socks Padded Under Garments Knee Braces Kidney Belt Motocross Jersey Motocross Pants Chest Protector Neck Brace Motocross Helmet Motocross Goggles Motocross Boots Motocross Gloves Motocross gear should start with a good pair of padded motocross socks. It may sound funny but a comfortable pair of riding socks can save your feet and ankles and keep you riding in comfortable for hours longer. Socks will protect your bare skin from rubbing any rigid parts of your boots, pant seems, or knee brace straps. We carry many top brands of motocross socks including Fox, Moose, and Shift. Men's Socks Women's Socks Youth Socks Padded Under Garments are also a good idea, padding will help to protect your hips and tail bone while riding or in the event of a fall over. Due to the nature of how a motorcycle turns, it is important to protect your knees. You are potentially only one crash away from knee surgery if you don’t use knee braces. With so many great knee braces on the market you should be wearing one if you have knee problems or not. Start protecting your knees with our Fox Racing Knee Braces. Your MX Gear must consist of motocross pants and a motocross jersey if you want to keep any skin on your body when you fall. It is important that your pants and jersey are loose enough that you can stand easily in the attack motocross position but aren’t so loose that they will be catching on things. We have a great selection of Fox, Moose, Icon, Shift, and Thor motocross pants and jerseys. Kidney belts are another important component of a good set of MX Gear. Kidney Belts give added support to the back and mid section of your body when riding. If you slam off of a big jump, or come into the whoops too hot, you will be glad your wearing a kidney belt. We currently offer Fox, Moose, Thor, and Shift kidney belts. Anyone who has every gone over the handlebars of a motorcycle knows the importance of a chest protector. They can save the core of your body from flying rocks, possible abrasions if you fall, mud at the starting gate, and offer some impact protection if you fall. People used to complain that they didn’t allow enough movement while riding but that is an old school way of thought. Try on a new chest protector and you will be blown away! A new piece of MX Gear is becoming more and more widely used and that is the neck brace. With so many legendary racers getting neck injuries it is important that we learn a lesson from that. Protecting our head and neck on a motorcycle should be our highest priority. Never take a chance with your children, always make them wear a neck brace. Motocross boots are a great way to protect your feet, ankles, and lower legs while riding a motorcycle and should be an essential part of your motocross gear. Probably the most important pieces of protective gear that you should own are your motocross helmet and mx goggles. Protecting your head on a motorcycle is of the utmost importance. You do not have to be going very fast to suffer a very serious head injury if your not wearing a helmet. ALWAYS WEAR A HELMET WHEN RIDING A MOTORCYCLE! If you see people riding without helmets, speak up and tell them to put on a helmet, it could save their life. Goggles are also very important in protecting your face and eyes from flying debris and should always be worn while riding. Motocross gloves are the least expensive of your motocross gear purchases but make riding so much more enjoyable. They may not save your life but they will keep you from getting blisters from the grips of your bike. They will also save your knuckles from brush, rocks and trees. If you crash you may try to break your fall with your hands that that is when you will really appreciate the motocross gloves your wearing. There is not a piece of motocross gear on the market that can keep you completely safe but by wearing the suggested motocross gear you will go a long way in protecting your body and hopefully enjoying the sport of motocross for years to come.
